Who and Why
I’m formally educated as an engineer. My education involved understanding how and why things worked by tracing them back to the laws of physics. The laws of physics are irrefutable; a plane won’t fly in the real world if its design defies the laws of physics. Answering the how and why questions in the messy world of humanity, however, is a more complex and challenging task. This complexity breeds a chaotic battlefield of ideas, and because it lacks a universal foundation it can be difficult for people to find common ground. If we could somehow link human behavior to universal laws like we do in the natural sciences, could this help douse the flames that fuel social conflict?
After university, I finally had time to expand my education beyond just engineering. Ironically, it was after leaving academic institutions that I came to fully appreciate the joy, wonder, and fulfillment that came with learning about why and how the world works, and the freedom that accompanies understanding.
The knowledge transfer community, from books to podcasts, has been instrumental to my development. After having spent a few years steeping in a broad range of subjects, I now feel capable of contributing to the flourishing knowledge transfer community. If Buddha was right, and ignorance lies at the root of suffering, I want to help the world better understand itself and nip suffering in the bud.
Community
If you’re like me and strive to better understand our complex world, this community is for you. I’ll be writing about subjects that have provoked thought in myself, and I hope they are thought-provoking for you as well.
Involvement is encouraged, let’s help each other learn.
Frequency
This is something I’ll be doing on the side during my free time, so expect posts monthly.
